Dak Hardwick

Derek “Dak” Hardwick

Job:
Director for Peacekeeping Operations, U.S. Dept. of Defense

Location:
Washington, D.C.

Education:
Undergraduate: Bachelor of Science, Public Affairs (Administration), Indiana University
Graduate: Master of Public Administration, West Virginia University

Coolest Thing About my Job:
I am responsible for all U.S. military activities related to United Nations peacekeeping and other multinational missions.
I routinely interact with U.S. and foreign government officials as we seek to integrate U.S. military capabilities into United Nations
peacekeeping operations. I also provide policy advice to senior U.S. decision makers every day that affects the lives of people around the world. That’s something I take very seriously.

Why I chose Federal Service:
The issues and challenges that you work on and deal with while in federal service are one of a kind. Federal service is a very unique experience, and one that every person should have.

Most Important Issue the Nation is Facing:
The federal deficit and its effect on our national security.  We borrow money from other nations to offset increased spending.  These nations use the fees and interest from that lending to develop national defenses that could pose security challenges to the United States in the future.

Interests:
Golf, college sports, whitewater rafting
