General Counsel Internships
The U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) is responsible for administering the United States Government's economic and humanitarian foreign assistance program. The Office of the General Counsel, which provides legal advice and guidance for all of the agency's operations worldwide, has legal internship positions for J.D. candidates who have completed at least one year of law school and, occasionally, for students seeking law degrees subsequent to receiving the J.D. degree.
Legal interns work with an Assistant General Counsel and one or more of the staff lawyers within one of the ten divisions of the General Counsel's Office. These divisions are: Africa; Asia and the Near East; Europe and Eurasia; Latin America and the Caribbean; Global Assistance; Democracy, Conflict and Humanitarian Assistance; Litigation and Enforcement; Contract and Commodity Management; Legislation and Policy; and Ethics and Administration.

Duration: Three to four months
Program Availability:
Semester, Summer
Since the security clearance process can take as long as three months, resumes should be received by our office at least this far in advance of the time desired for beginning an internship.
